From the desk of the HOD….. “Commerce changes the fate and genius of nations” ____ Thomas Gray The most important asset of any civic society is its skilled manpower. The mission of the Commerce Department at CMA is not just dissemination of knowledge but equipping the students with appropriate skills and ability to take up new challenges for contributing to the society as well as fulfilling their career dreams . In this pursuit, our aim has always been to groom our students into leaders. The core subjects offered at present are Accountancy, Business Studies, and Economics. The school has plans of introducing new subjects like Entrepreneurship, Tourism Studies in the near future. The study of these above mentioned subjects on one hand enhance analytical powers and on the other allows a student to understand how business activities influence the society and the economy directly and indirectly. The methodology of teaching in this department ranges from detailed explanation of concepts, mathematical interpretation and graphs drawn on the board and solving of numericals to powerpoint presentations (made both by students and teachers), role-play, debates, group discussions, factory visits etc. Since “Social Responsibility” be it of business houses or the government is an integral part of studies in Commerce Department, the students are taken to visit slum dwellers, old age homes to develop in them a deep understanding of the sufferings of fellow human beings. The students of this department are groomed to have an intellectual outlook towards the world. The Commerce Department has celebrated alumni to boast of. Our past pupils are very successful CAs, CS, MBA degree holders from premier institutes of the country and abroad. Some others are dynamic entrepreneurs, fashion designers, teachers, statisticians, holding top position in MNCs, Banks, Stock Exchange, heading Event management firms, and it is a matter of great pride that our department has produced an IFS officer as well. The Commerce stream is gaining popularity at a rapid speed. There are excellent career-related options to this stream.
